Resident Life

New Children's Memorial residents get to know each other over an informal lunch in Lincoln Park. New Children's Memorial residents get acquainted over lunch in Lincoln Park.

Our pediatric residents are a social group and we have several planned (and unplanned) activities when we're not working. During the summer, senior residents host weekly Friday night barbeques for the new residents and their families. It's a great way to get to know the house staff and Chicago.

Throughout the rest of the year, a resident social committee organizes several fun and unique events for residents and their families. Some of these activities have included apple picking, pumpkin carving contests, bowling, and miniature golf outings. Last year, we played Whirly Ball (a Chicago-born sport played on bumper cars) and rented out the rock climbing wall at a local gym. In addition, several of our residents play on intramural sports teams through the Chicago Sport and Social Club. Residents frequently get together to watch their favorite primtetime TV shows, sample new cuisine, attend Chicago sporting events, or play card games (often with faculty).

Residents living it up at the annual holiday party

In December, we have our annual Resident Holiday Party which is the most anticipated night of the year. Attending physicians cover the hospital for the evening and all residents are free to enjoy a night of dinner and dancing with their colleagues and friends.

In February, the intern class heads up to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for a one-night intern retreat. It's a great chance to take a break from the busy hospital and relax with your friends in the snow.
