Morning Report (Case
Conference)
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday — 8 -
9 a.m.
Tuesday, Friday – noon-1
p.m.
At this daily
resident conference, residents present recent cases from the wards and the
discussion is facilitated by the chief residents. This is an excellent forum for
the residents to discuss diagnosis, work up, and management of complex medical
problems. Most of all, it is our best opportunity to engage in lively academic
debate and learn to rigorously defend our medical decision making in a
confidential and supportive atmosphere. While it is primarily a resident
conference, key faculty members participate to lend their expertise to the
discussion.

Noon Conference (Didactic
Lectures)
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday — noon - 1
p.m.
Three times a week during the noon
hour, faculty give focused lectures on particular topics. These talks are
designed to provide succinct information pertaining to a variety of pediatric
topics. Senior residents occasionally take part in lecturing in order to gain
experience in public speaking. For the resident talks, each residents is given
personal guidance before their talk and feedback immediately afterward from the
chief residents and program directors.
FIRM
Conference
Tuesday — 8 - 9
a.m.
FIRM is one of our most unique
multidisciplinary conferences. Each week faculty from each of the pediatric
disciplines discuss and debate a single recent case from the wards. Residents
are able to sit back and learn from the experts as they generate a differential,
present cutting-edge evidence-based data, and work through the medical decision
making process. Transcriptions of
FIRM are published monthly in the journal Pediatric Annals.
Grand Rounds
Friday — 8 - 9 a.m.
Pediatric Grand Rounds assembles speakers on a variety
of clinical and research-related topics from Northwestern faculty and other
respected healthcare professionals across the country. See a sampling of current
topics.
