Children's Memorial Hospital is one of the major pediatric teaching
hospitals in the United States. Since 1946, the hospital has been affiliated with
Northwestern University Medical School, now the Feinberg School of
Medicine , and the school's
Department of Pediatrics has been based at Children's Memorial ever since. All
of the hospital's full-time medical staff (and many of the community-based
doctors) hold faculty appointments at the Feinberg School of Medicine. The
faculty physicians are among the leaders in the nation in their specialty areas,
and they are exceptionally qualified to share their expertise with other
physicians who want to keep current in today's fast-moving world of health care.
The nurses also have gained national recognition as leaders in their field.
In December 2001, the hospital was designated as the first ANCC Magnet hospital
in Illinois and the first freestanding children's hospital in the nation to
receive the prestigious Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence.
