Educational services

Pat Ebervein, school services coordinator, works with a young patient. Read more.

The educational services program at Children's Memorial provides an opportunity for children to keep up with their school work and improve their skills while hospitalized.

  • Students from outside Chicago or who are not eligible for district services can get help with their school work from the School Services Program at Children's. Either a certified teacher or a volunteer will tutor patients while in the hospital and help families connect with teachers if patients need educational services after discharge. Call the school services coordinator at 773.880.3626 for more information.
  • Teachers and volunteer tutors are available daily either at the bedside or in the seventh floor classroom. They will give patients assignments if they forget their work or ask schools to fax homework.
  • Chicago Public School students who are also Children's Memorial patients may be eligible for educational services from district teachers on-site at the hospital. The Chicago Public Schools' Home/Hospital Services can assist students who are expected to miss two or more weeks of school due to hospitalization.
  • Chicago students whose chronic health problems cause them to miss school intermittently (usually less than two weeks per episode) may be eligible for home/hospital educational services throughout the school year.
