Payment policy

At Children's Memorial Hospital, it is important to us that we provide the best possible medical care for children. We also want to make the financial aspects of receiving care as simple as possible. To help reduce the costs of unnecessary paperwork, we ask that you pay a portion of your charges on the day of your visit. The amount owed will depend on your insurance type and coverage.

HMO, PPO, POS and Indemnity Insurance Plan

Please bring your current insurance card when you come for your visit. If your insurance is a HMO, PPO, POS or Indemnity plan that requires a co-payment, you will be asked to pay this amount. If the amount owed is not listed on your card, contact your insurance company prior to your visit to determine the correct amount. Co-payments are collected at the time of check-in. All services requiring a referral prior to care are expected at the time of service. If a referral is not presented, families will be asked to sign a waiver stating they will be financially responsible for the visit.

Medicaid, Kid Care and All Kids

Please bring your current enrollment card provided by Medicaid, Kid Care or All Kids. The card shows the type of coverage you have and may also include the co-payment amount. If the amount owed is not listed on your card, contact the All Kids program prior to your visit to determine the correct amount. Co-payments are collected at the time of check-in.

Self-pay

If you are not covered by any type of insurance, our Patient Financial Services Department can help you understand your payment options. Generally, we ask that you pay your entire bill on the day of your visit. When it is not possible to predict the exact fees, we will ask for a minimum payment of $100. Any remaining balance will be billed to you.

For your convenience, we accept cash, personal checks or Visa, MasterCard and Discover.

Services not covered by your insurance plan

Our staff does its best to understand the rules of all managed care plans. Before your visit, we will try to let you know whether the services you are receiving are covered by your insurance plan. However, due to the large number of plans that we accept and the complexity of each plan, we suggest that you understand your benefits as well. If some of the services you receive are not covered by your insurance plan, we will ask that you pay for those services on the day of your visit.

Financial assistance

We recognize that some of our families are unable to afford the cost of medical care. Children's Memorial has a financial assistance program to help those of you in this situation. To apply, you will need to provide us with information regarding all resources that are available to help you pay the medical bills, and apply for government and charitable programs that can assist you. If you are concerned about your ability to pay your bill, please contact us before your visit. For more information about financial assistance, call 773.880.4273 (dial ext. 4273 from within the hospital).
