For patients and families

Billing and payment policy

For more information,
call 773.880.4273 or
toll-free at 877.924.8200.

Medical bills can be complicated. We want to help families understand our payment policy, and their bills. Please call us with your specific billing questions. Before you call, it helps to know both the hospital and doctors treating your child send separate bills. And doctors may be in different medical groups. For more, see our frequently asked questions.

Insurance coverage

Depending on your insurance type and coverage, you may be asked to pay a portion of charges on the day of your visit. For more, see our frequently asked questions.

Visits to the Emergency Department

If you visit our Emergency Department, please note that any co-payments you may have are due at the time of service. For families' convenience, the hospital accepts cash, personal checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover card.

Self-pay

If you are not covered by insurance, we can help you understand your payment options. Generally, we ask families to pay their bill on the day of their visit. When it is not possible to predict the exact fees, we may ask for a minimum payment of $100, with any remaining balance billed. For families' convenience, the hospital accepts cash, personal checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover card.

Financial assistance

Children's Memorial has a financial assistance program. To apply, families provide information about available financial resources to pay medical bills, and apply for government and charitable programs.
