Discharge-related nutrition information
During your child's hospital stay you may have spoken with a registered
dietitian/clinical nutritionist.
Contact the dietitian directly if you have questions about the
following:
- Your child's diet
- Your child's growth
- Your child's nutrition plan, following being hospitalized.
To reach your dietitian...
- Call her direct number.
- Call the division that cared for your child; in many clinical areas,
physicians work directly with nutritionists.
- Call Clinical Nutrition at 773.880.4793.
Here are some examples of questions we should be able to help you with:
- My child was sent home on a special diet, what can he eat and does he need
to avoid anything?
- The feeding schedule she was on in the hospital doesn't work at home; can
you help me change it?
- I misplaced my feeding instructions; can you send me another copy?
What dietitians can and cannot do:
- They can help your doctor create a nutrition plan.
- They cannot change what your doctor prescribed.
Call your doctor if . . .
- Your child needs attention right now.
- You think something about your child's nutrition plan needs to be
changed.
You may call Clinical Nutrition Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
at 773.880.4793.
- If we are not available, leave a detailed message.
- In the message include: Your name and relationship to the child; your
child's name (please spell) and date of birth; reason for the call; a daytime
phone number so we can call you back
- We return messages in 1 business day.
- On weekends and holidays: Call your doctor directly.
