Spina bifida patients to get their own places
As reported in the Chicago Tribune, a Chicago doctor and pioneer in serving spina bifida patients has
launched another of his dreams — Illinois' first independent
residence for people with the spinal condition.
Dr.
David McLone, a pediatric neurosurgeon who created the spina bifida clinic
at Children's Memorial Hospital in 1975, was on hand Tuesday for the
groundbreaking of the 15-unit complex, dubbed Anixter Village for the
co-sponsoring agency that helps people with disabilities.
The residence,
at 2059 W. Washburne Ave. in the Illinois Medical District, is expected to open
in spring 2007. It will house up to 21 people.
