Raye Block, registered nurse
“The opportunity to take care of the most special children in the world is the reason that I have chosen to work at Children’s Memorial for more than thirty years,” says Raye Block, RN. In 1975, Block began her career at Children’s Memorial as an LPN in Neurosurgery. With the support of the tuition reimbursement program, Block continued her education and received an associate’s degree in nursing in 1982. Since that time, she has worked as a registered nurse in Neurosurgery. For Block, “there is nothing more rewarding than being right at the bedside. It is such a special gift when families allow us to be a part of their lives at the most difficult of times.”
While reflecting on her career, Block highlights the sense of teamwork that she feels is so important in accomplishing the mission of the hospital. “Not one single person can do their job without the help of many others. The nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, environment service techs, interpreters, and many others come together to serve our families. I have had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people who have enlightened me with their knowledge and expertise.” Block’s years of compassionate care to families and children have undoubtedly made a difference in many lives. For her, “seeing them doing well years later in life is very rewarding. This is the only job that I want to be doing.”
