Working at Children's Memorial

Our hospital

Our commitment to employees

The hospital's most fundamental cultural characteristic is our commitment to our employees.

The hospital's compelling vision and mission, and being part of an organization that receives frequent recognition for being among the best, are just two reasons employees are proud to work here. Read more accolades and important facts about us, and see charts listing how our employee satisfaction ranks against other hospitals.

In our fast-paced environment, families and colleagues expect excellence. Three core values guide all employee actions and expectations:

  1. Teamwork – we partner effectively with all members of our diverse workforce and we depend on each other to accomplish our goals.
  2. Service – we provide exceptional service and treat each other and the people we serve with respect and courtesy at all times.
  3. Innovation – we are continually looking to improve processes through simplification, increased efficiency and cost reduction.

A great place to work

Recognition for our commitment to being "a great place to work" includes being:

  • Illinois' first hospital and the nation's first freestanding children’s hospital to receive the prestigious Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center as one of the great places to work as a nurse
  • One of the top 100 U.S. companies for working mothers (Working Mother magazine, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009)
  • One of the nation's 100 best places to work in healthcare (Modern Healthcare magazine, 2008, 2009)
  • A Best Practice Award employer for our commitment to flexible scheduling (American Society for Health Care Human Resource Administration)
  • One of the Chicago metropolitan area’s best employers (Chicago magazine)
  • One of America's healthiest companies, receiving the Wellness Councils of America’s top award in the Gold Well Workplace Category

Employeee satisfaction by the numbers

Our employee satisfaction ranked in the 97th percentile among 341 surveyed hospitals, and at the 100th percentile for 40 children’s hospitals recently surveyed. For the fourth consecutive year, we had the highest score ever recorded for a children’s hospital.

Results from the most recent survey also show overall satisfaction was extremely high. On a scale of 1 to 7 with 7 being “I love it," nearly 82 percent of staff rated us a 6 or 7.
