General Position Description:
Provides comprehensive health care and nursing services to a pediatric
population. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care
the needs of neonatal, pediatric and adolescent patients in regards to
their growth and development process. The position actively supports the
Hospital’s and the department’s Continuous Quality Improvement and
customer service goals individually and as an effective team
member. |

Job Responsibilities:
As provider of comprehensive health care and nursing services to a
pediatric population, a nurse practitioner may perform some or all of the
following advanced practice functions: Evaluates health status and health
care needs. Elicits and records comprehensive health histories including
nutritional, developmental, psychosocial, cultural, and physical
components. Performs and records comprehensive physical exams.
Differentiates normal from abnormal findings. Identifies risk factors.
Identifies anticipatory guidance and counseling needs. Identifies expected
outcomes and individualizes expected outcomes with patient/family and
health care team when appropriate. Assesses family dynamics and the impact
of social forces on the family by identifying stressors, strengths and
weaknesses, supports and coping abilities of each family and its members.
based on evaluation, formulates and documents a plan of care in
conjunction with the collaborating physician. Implements a plan of care.
Evaluates outcomes and revises a plan of care in conjunction with
protocols or collaborating physician. Provides formal and informal
education to other members of the health care team and lay and
professional communities. Initiates and/or collaborates in research
designed to improve patient care and advance nursing knowledge. Works with
patient care administrator on business plans and implementation of patient
programs. Addresses clinical practice issues with the nursing clinical
governance committee structure. Develops collaborative practice agreements
and protocols for delegated medical tasks with the collaborating physician
and obtains approval through nursing and medical governance structures.
Documents in patient records in accordance with Medical Center policies
and developed protocols. |

Requirements
Job Requirements:
- Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse in
the State of Illinois is required upon hire into this role.
- A Master’s degree from an accredited school of
nursing is required.
- Successful completion of an organized program of
study meeting American Nursing Association/American Association of Pediatric
guidelines for pediatric nurse practitioner/pediatric nurse associate programs
with certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is required.
- A minimum of two years in pediatric nursing is
required.
- Ability to physically immobilize children if
necessary and to assess and respond quickly to patient care situations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients/families, physicians,
hospital staff, public health staff social agencies, school personnel,
community resources and media. Ability to move equipment and
patients.
