Position Summary:
Registered Nurse on 3 West - Neuroscience/Endocrine Unit with 24 beds
including a 6 bed Neuro Constant Care Unit. In the Neurosurgical Constant
Care Unit the nurses closely monitor postoperative nuerosurgical patients
and trauma patients who require constant observation and frequent
vital/neuro checks. Typical assignments for nurses in the constant care
room are 3:1 patient to nurse ratio. Nurses caring for patients in the
general rooms on 3 West include: hydrocephalus, spina bifida, head trauma,
brain/spinal cord tumors, seizures, spinal fusion, diabetes, and diabetic
ketoacidosis. The Epilepsy Center provides 24 hour video/EEG monitoring
for both inpatients and outpatients. Nurses on the Neuroscience/Endocrine
unit train to the Epilepsy Center.

Essential Job Functions:
Performs responsibilities in five areas of nursing practice: clinician,
teacher, researcher, leadership and professional development. Understands
and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of neonatal,
pediatric and adolescent patients in regards to their growth and
development process. The position actively supports the Hospital’s and
department’s Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals,
individually and as an effective team member. Clinician behaviors include:
assessment of documents, plan care and document goals appropriate for
child and family. Maintain a safe environment, take direct and appropriate
action to urgent situations. Preserve patient rights, reflect recognition
of child’s development level. Functions as a member of the healthcare
team. Document patient discharge and evaluates patient and family response
to plan of care. Teacher behaviors include: identify patient and family
learning needs and abilities. Research behaviors: read research articles
related to patient/family care topics or assist with collection of data.

Requirements
Job Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Current licensure
as a Registered nurse in the State of Illinois and CPR certification.
Ability to safely immobilize children if necessary and to assess and respond
quickly to patient care situations. Ability to move equipment and patients.
Ability to effectively communicate with patients/families, physicians and
hospital staff.
