Coding & Billing Analyst, CSF

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the coding and billing activity for Children’s Surgical Foundation, Inc. (CSF) physicians. This person audits and monitors billing documentation, provides education, updates billing forms and enhances revenue capture. Works with the billing service to provide timely submission and uses modem access to the billing service to detect any inconsistencies within the collection process.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversees, monitors, and audits coding and billing activities for the Division, including outpatient E/Ms and surgeries.
  • Oversees coding accuracy & helps maintain coding compliance and audits for the Division.
  • Confers with the physicians to communicate and educate when deficiencies in documentation and code selection are identified.
  • Coordinates bi-monthly educational meeting with CSF physicians to provide updates on current coding guidelines and regulations.
  • Monitors collections and reports any issues to the Coding and Compliance Manager & Practice Manager.
  • Assists Coding and Compliance Manager with communication with billing service for all CSF Divisions to resolve questions and problems with billing and accounts payable.
  • Works, collaboratively with CSF Billing Coordinator to assure accurate and timely processing of patient charges.
  • Works closely with Billing Coordinator to monitor payments, contractual adjustments, EOBs, denials/appeals, and all underpaid services from the Billing service & Third Party Payors for all CSF divisions.
  • Assists Coding and Compliance Manager in answering inquiries from patients and third party payors regarding services rendered from all CSF divisions.
  • Oversees the Billing Coordinator with refunds from the billing service for all CSF divisions.
  • Participates in educational programs for physicians. Attends monthly meetings with CSF billers and billing service to rectify problems. Attends all staff meetings.
  • Reports directly to the Coding and Compliance Manager.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

FTE status: FT-80

Requirements

  • Minimum of High Scholl Diploma required. Equivalent years of experience and education within this field including exposure to coding courses (certification preferred).
  • Current RHIA, CPC, or CPC-P required. Previous auditing background preferred.
  • CPT and ICD-9 coding knowledge. Understanding of federal and state laws and regulations in medical reimbursement preferred.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (i.e., photocopy machine, fax machine, calculator, etc.) Proficient in Windows environment and Microsoft Word, Excel, Access & Outlook is mandatory.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with any and all hospital/Division staff and patients, parents, external professionals and/or officials.
