Elizabeth Fung, senior social worker
For Elizabeth Fung, working at Children’s Memorial Hospital is like “being part of a larger family. The connections that we make with families are so important and the work we do has such an impact on their lives.” As a senior social worker in the hemophilia and thrombophilia program since 1977, Fung has made a difference in the lives of countless children and families. She works closely with families in adjusting to their child’s diagnosis, managing their treatment plan and preparing children for successful school and life transitions. Her work does not go without notice, as she was honored with the 2006 Social Worker of the Year Award by the National Hemophilia Association. “I really enjoy working with children because they have such excitement for life. The work is very fulfilling,” says Fung.
Fung also notes that her long tenure with the hospital is due to the organization’s commitment to teamwork and innovation. “I enjoy working with people who are really passionate about what they do. I am fortunate to work with a very dedicated team.” With the support of the organization, Fung and her colleagues received a department GOAL grant, which provided onsite training for guided imagery. “I really appreciate that our leadership team encourages and validates employees who like to do innovative work, including research and advanced learning.”
