White Elephant Resale Shop

The White Elephant Shop – a fundraising project of the Children’s Memorial Founders’ Board – carries a wide variety of merchandise for sale, such as the following:

The White Elephant shop often has many useful items for sale such as those donated from the recent International Home and Housewares Show at McCormick Place.

  • Books
  • Musical instruments
  • Jewelry
  • China and silver
  • Toys
  • Artwork
  • Bicycles and exercise equipment
  • And much more…..

The shop receives merchandise from many sources, including items from private individuals, businesses, as well as bequests by hospital benefactors and research project supporters. The donations include both new and gently used merchandise.  Proceeds of all sales directly benefit Children’s Memorial.

Please note the items below that we cannot accept:

Built-in appliances or those that are more than 3 years old  Blinds, curtain rods
or window shades		  Bottled gas or fuel of any type
Automobile tires  Built-in cupboards or cabinets Children’s cribs, highchairs, car seats, strollers, etc.
Bathroom or tub enclosures Console televisions and stereos Dishes or glassware that is chipped or damaged
Dot matrix or bubble-jet printers Electric organs or upright pianos  Encyclopedias, text books, magazines or newspapers
 Food or cosmetics Furniture in poor condition, stained, torn, odorous or with pet hair  Hazardous materials of any sort including paint and varnish
Hospital beds or medical equipment  Mattresses or box springs Musty/damaged clothing or

soiled linen

 Old copier machines  Office furniture or equipment  Platform or waterbeds

Recalled items

Typewriters

Shop hours

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thursday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday: Noon to 5 p.m.

You may choose to fill out an online request for scheduling a donation pickup here. A White Elephant staff member will contact you in two business days or less.

Or you may drop off items at the shop or at the drop-off location in Lake Forest at 234 W. Westminster Road.
