Summer program

The 2008 summer program is underway.  Please visit this page later in the year for information about the 2009 summer program.   Or if you are able to volunteer for six months or longer, please visit "Becoming A Volunteer" for details about our other programs.

The summer volunteer program at Children's Memorial Hospital runs from mid May to mid September. Within that time, summer volunteers are asked to commit to ten weeks, for a minimum of one half-day shift per week. (High school students are asked for an eight week commitment). All summer volunteer opportunities are during daytime weekday hours. The minimum age for volunteering at Children's Memorial Hospital is 16. Here are the steps for becoming a summer volunteer.

Step 1: Attend an informational meeting.

In the summer program, which runs from mid May to mid September, volunteers are asked to commit to ten weeks, for a minimum of one half-day shift per week.

Meetings will be held in May and June. At the meeting, you will learn about the options for summer volunteer positions. On May 1, you may call 773.880.4507 to be placed on the guest list for one of the meetings. PLEASE NOTE: the summer program fills quickly.

Step 2: Sign up for a screening interview.

Following the informational meetings, there will be an opportunity to sign up for an interview to discuss your interests and be matched with an assignment.

Step 3: Complete a health screening.

Please click here to link with the FAQ section for information on health screenings.

Step 4: Attend a training session.

You will be notified about the training date for your assignment following your interview.
