Established in 2000 as a Junior Board of the Gus Foundation, YAB
raises funds to support children with brain tumors through special events. These include the annual Run for Gus 5K Run/1 Mile Walk in Chicago’s Lincoln Park
neighborhood. The organization also organizes a variety of service projects at Children's. YAB
has made its mission to support the cutting edge treatments and critical
research that will hopefully lead to a cure for brain tumors.
Events
YAB's signature event is Run
for Gus -- a fun and inspiring event to raise funds for pediatric brain tumor
research and Family Services programs at Children's
In addition to the momentous
opening of Lurie Children's, 2012 marks a milestone for YAB, as they are
celebrating the 10th anniversary of Run for Gus, honoring Gus Evangelides, who died
after a courageous battle with a malignant brain tumor in April of 1995 -- three
months shy of his second birthday. Whether you are a
runner, walker or supporter, this event has activities for participants of all
ages.
Legacy of the Gus Foundation
The Gus Foundation was
established in 1995 by the family and friends of Gus Evangelides. During its 11 year existence, the Gus
Foundation raised more than $4 million for pediatric brain tumor research and
became one of Children's largest affiliated organizations.
