Holiday Giving
There's nothing quite as satisfying as teaming up with others for a great
cause. Add a little cheer to your workplace by leading a fundraising drive for
Children's Memorial.
There are a number of special programs for which your group can fundraise:
- Car Seat Saftey: Unintentional injuries could be avoided. This program works with families who are being
discharged from the hospital who do not have the means to purchase a car
seat for their child. The program offers infant, toddler, and booster car seats
for $10 and offers weekly classes on car seat safety. The hospital distributes about
one car seat per day and needs approximately $1,500 per month to
cover supplies. Help us keep kids safe this holiday season by supporting this program.

Research Center.
- Care for Caregivers: Children's Memorial's dedicated staff provides lifesaving
care to more than 103,000 children each year. Our doctors and nurses are all
sub-specialists in their field, and work around the clock to ensure the best
possible care for each child who steps through our doors. As Children's
Memorial continues to see more patients each year and maximizes all available
hospital space for patient needs, time and space allotted for caregivers to
take care of themselves is increasingly important. This holiday season
consider setting a fundraising goal to fund supportive and wellness
programming for our caregivers. The following are among the caregivers
“wish list” items:
- 6 Massage recliner chairs
- 6 IPODs and
headsets with relaxing music
- Weekly massage services
- Health
Education Sessions ($125 Per Session)
- Gift cards to local retailers
(Kohl's, Best Buy, Etc.)
- Holiday Stockings: Every year on Christmas Eve, nurses tiptoe into the rooms
of patients who have to spend Christmas in the hospital. They quietly help
Santa by placing a stocking full of goodies near the children's beds so that
there will be a cheerful surprise greeting them on Christmas morning. The cost
of each stocking, stuffed with age-appropriate small toys, games, stickers and
other fun items is approximately $8 each, and we can have as many as 250
patients in the hospital. You can sponsor this year's holiday stockings program with a
gift of $2,000.
- Kohl's House A “home away from
home” for our transplant patients and their families, relies on donations of
food and household items.
- Partners with Parents Provides
gift cards to parents of patients, who are of limited financial means,
enabling them to purchase groceries, medications, household items, gifts, etc.
- Patient Literacy
Program While in the hospital, young patients and their
siblings are away from their regular educational activities. To promote the
joy of reading, Children's Memorial is is piloting a new literacy program that
allows each patient and their siblings to receive a book. Please consider
sponsoring a book drive to help provide the 10,000 books needed to support
this important program.
-
Snoedels (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)- Premature babies in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
are often separated from their parents at birth in order to receive lifesaving
treatment. This separation can be detrimental to the bonding process between
parent and baby and the overall development of the child. Snoedels are dolls
that aid in parental bonding and development for these critically ill babies.
Parents sleep with the Snoedel, allowing their scent to be absorbed in the
doll's natural and specially formulated fabric. The Snoedel is then laid close
to the hospitalized baby. This allows the baby to have the scent of his or her
mother and father close, even if medical treatment limits physical interaction
between the parents and the baby.
- Toys and Games Help make a
patient's hospital stay brighter. Donate toys or games to help brighten a day
in a child's life. All donated toys and games must be new and unwrapped in
order to protect patients with compromised immune systems.
