Medical Research Junior Board Foundation

The mission of the Medical Research Junior Board Foundation (MRJBF) is to support pediatric medical research initiatives at Children's Memorial Hospital and Children's Memorial Research Center.

Founded in 1992, the MRJBF is an Illinois non-profit organization and serves as a junior board to the Medical Research Institute Council (MRIC) which has been raising funds for medical research in Chicago since the 1950s. Both the MRJBF and the MRIC work under the umbrella of Children's Memorial Foundation to promote activities and community awareness for Children's Memorial. The MRJBF has approximately 65 members consisting of young professionals in the Chicago metropolitan area, ranging in age from 22 to their mid 30s.

Fundraising

To date, the MRJBF has helped Children's Memorial Foundation raise over $800,000 for pediatric medical research initiatives at the hospital and the research center.

Events

The MRJBF has hosted many of the city's premier junior board events, each averaging over 400 guests in attendance to help raise significant funds for research. Fundraising events range from cocktail parties, art exhibits and silent auctions, to a live band karaoke championship and grand openings of restaurants, theaters and retail stores. 

Board activities

The MRJBF meets on a monthly basis to plan fundraising events. The MRJBF also invites guest speakers such as Children's Memorial physicians and researchers to educate board members about current medical issues, treatments, and advances. Board members also have the opportunity to tour the hospital and the research center to stay informed of ongoing developments.
