  • Portal hypertension

    abnormally high blood pressure in the portal vein, the blood vessel that brings all of the blood from the intestines to the liver. It supplies the liver with 75% of its blood supply and 50% of its oxygen. Portal hypertension can happen because of a sick liver that is slowly being replaced with scar tissue. Learn more »

    While transplantation is the primary service offered to children with severe organ failure, the transplant surgery team uses alternative and innovative transplant-sparing procedures in a comprehensive approach aimed at improving existing organ function.
