Uroflowmetry (flow rate test)

The uroflowmetry (flow rate) is the measurement of urinating characteristics. It determines the volume of a child's urine and how long it takes him to empty his bladder, as well as the force of the stream.

Procedure

  • In the urodynamics lab, the child urinates as he or she normally would (standing or sitting) into a special commode that is connected to a monitor.
  • The child should not have a bowel movement or put toilet paper into the commode; it is not a regular toilet.
  • After the test is complete, the doctor will explain the results.
