Urology

Earl Y. Cheng, MD, gets up close and personal with patient Myles during a recent check-up at Children's Memorial. Read more.

Our Division of Urology is a unique surgical and medical subspecialty dedicated to the care of children with disorders of the urinary tract and genitalia. These disorders can be congenital or acquired. Common conditions cared for by pediatric urologists include urinary tract infections, wetting, hernias, hydroceles, undescended testis, urinary reflux, hydronephrosis, and hypospadias. For a more complete list, see our health topics »

Advanced technology for many urologic surgeries

In addtion to minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy), we offer the da Vinci® robot-assisted system, particularly well-suited for complex intra-abdominal procedures and reconstructive urological surgery. About 80 percent of its use in children is in urology. It can offer less pain, lower risk of infection, less scarring and shorter hospital stays. Why a pediatric urologist?

Children are not tiny adults. A child's urinary tract (kidney, ureter, and bladder) and genitalia are different than those of an adult, and the medical and surgical management of problems in these areas require a different approach.

About us

Ranked 6th in the nation by U.S.News & World Report for pediatric urology, Children's Memorial is only one of two hospitals in the Chicago metropolitan area that are ranked nationally among the Best Children's Hospitals.

Our division offers board certified urologists that have completed additional fellowship training in pediatric urological surgery. Teaming with specialized nurse practitioners and uniquely trained support staff, our physicians focus care only on kids, offering treatment for both common and complex pediatric urology conditions. We also offer fetal urology; learn more about our Institute for Fetal Health »
