Training to Reduce injuries in Active Kids (TRAK?)

The number of children participating in competitive sports has increased dramatically over the last decade. Unfortunately, this has led to a growing number of sports-related injuries among children. Many of these injuries can lead to prolonged time away from activity and sport.

The Institute for Sports Medicine at Children's Memorial Hospital has developed a sports injury prevention program for boys and girls 8 to 13 years of age: Training to Reduce injuries in Active Kids (TRAK®).

What is TRAK?

  • TRAK teaches youth sports coaches how to use safe training practices, including age-appropriate dynamic warm-up and cool-down exercises designed to promote strength, agility, flexibility and coordination.
  • TRAK aims to enhance athletic development and reduce the risk of injury during phyiscal activity.

By helping active kids establish healthy training habits, TRAK provides a foundation from which they can master more complex sports skills with a reduced risk for injury.

How can my child participate in TRAK?

  • A 15-minute instructional DVD available through the Institute for Sports Medicine shows coaches how to incorporate the TRAK exercises into their practice routines.
  • For more information about how you can bring TRAK to your child's sports team, call the Institute for Sports Medicine at 773.327.1201
