KIPP Frequently Asked Questions
What if my daughter cannot attend all of the
sessions?
- Participants are expected to attend all 12 sessions. KIPP
is a progressive exercise program. Exercises change from week to week and
build on skills learned the previous week. Participants will not fully
benefit from the training if sessions are missed. We do recognize
that unexpected circumstances may occur, such as illness. Please do not enroll your daughter
in the program if she will miss more than one session.
Is this program available to all age
groups?
-
KIPP is
designed for female athletes between 12 and 18 years of age.
My daughter has already had surgery for a
torn ACL. Can she participate?
- Girls who have already torn the ACL are ideal candidates for this
program! Most are ready for KIPP after they have completed about 4 to 6 months
of rehabilitation. Clearance from the surgeon and physical therapist are
required.
My daughter is participating on her sports
team during the 6 weeks that KIPP is offered. The dates do not appear to
conflict. Can she do both?
- The program is not designed for athletes who are in-season. It is
designed for the pre-season or off-season. The exercises become progressively more
strenuous from week 1 to week 6, as skills build in difficulty. During weeks 3
through 6, we recommend a day off from athletic activity after each program
session in order to allow for appropriate muscle rebuilding and
recovery.
Is a physical examination required?
- Yes. Your daughter must provide documentation of a sports physical
performed by her pediatrician within the last 12 months, indicating clearance
to participate in all sports without restriction. If your daughter has not had
a sports physical within the last 12 months, she is welcome to have it
performed at the Institute for Sports Medicine. Please call 773.327.1270 to
schedule an appointment.
Is there an opportunity for my daughter to
contribute to any new research?
- Yes. We welcome your daughter's participation in our ongoing research
investigating effective ways to prevent sports-related injuries. Participation
simply requires your daughter's completion of a one-page questionnaire on the
first and last days of the KIPP program, and again at the completion of her
next sports season. Please indicate on your enrollment form that you would
like your daughter to participate in the research so that our staff can send
you the appropriate consent forms.
