Kohl's House

Dear patients, families, and friends:

For nearly 11 years, it has been our privilege at Kohl's House to serve so many families going through transplant in need of a place to stay. We have learned so much from you about resilience, love, and the power of fun! In June, when we become the Anne and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, the Kohl's House will close. Please know that we are hard at work to ensure the transitional period between Kohl's House closing and the new Ronald McDonald House opening is as smooth as possible for our families.

Please join us on June 8, 2012 from 2-4 pm at Kohl's House for a closing party and looking forward to the future! If you are unable to attend and wish to write something about your stay here, please email Michelle at mmascaro@childrensmemorial.org.

We look forward to seeing you on June 8 and at Lurie Children's!

Michelle, Pam and Jorge

Kohl's House is a place of healing, rest, comfort and hope. Thank you to the many organizations and individuals that donated time, service, money and the amenities that have made Kohl's House a home.

On Saturday, June 9, Children's Memorial Hospital is becoming Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. The main hospital will move to 225 East Chicago Avenue, in downtown Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood. Learn more about the new main hospital and its new location »

Related to the main hospital move, Kohl's House, a home away from home for transplant patients and their families, will close its doors at noon on Friday, June 8.

To learn more about current and future housing opportunities near the existing main hospital in Lincoln Park, and the new main hospital in downtown Chicago, call Guest Relations staff before Friday, June 8 at 773.975.8881.

Transition

A few weeks after we bid a fond farewell to Kohl's House, Ronald McDonald House will open a new facility on June 26 in Streeterville located just a few blocks from Lurie Children's.

To accommodate our families during the transition period between Kohl's House closing (June 8) and the new Ronald McDonald House opening (June 26), the Ronald McDonald House in Lincoln Park will be open to our transplant families beginning on June 8. If you have any questions about this transitional period, please feel free to contact Michelle Mascaro at 773.975.8881 or mmascaro@childrensmemorial.org

New beginnings

Ronald McDonald House, a partner with Children's Memorial for 35 years, is moving and expanding to a new 14 floor, 100,000 sq. ft. facility at 211 E. Grand Avenue in order to better serve families at Lurie Children's. Ronald McDonald House will continue its tradition of welcoming families of children who are receiving treatment (inpatient or outpatient) in nearby hospitals. Opening less than three weeks after the hospital opens, the new Ronald McDonald House will provide care and comfort to 66 families.

There will be two dedicated transplant floors in the new Ronald McDonald House, each with eight private bedrooms. Each bedroom (like the one pictured) will have two queen beds, a desk and a lounge chair, and a private bath. Each room will also have a television in the room as well as a refrigerator for storing medications. Each transplant floor is self-sufficient for families, including a full kitchen, play area, family den, laundry room, and computer room. While families will find everything they need on their floor, they are welcome to join other Ronald McDonald House families on common floors in the house.

Special thanks
