Occupational therapy groups
Movement and music group
Purpose: To provide the opportunity to improve
bilateral coordination, spatial relations and motor planning skills, body
awareness, and strength and coordination necessary for age appropriate
participation in daily living. The group is also designed to improve sensory
modulation, enhance social skills among peers and improve attention and
direction following in a group setting.
Group: Membership is open to children ages 3-5 years old that are ready
for the challenges and benefits of a group setting. Examples of diagnoses
include but are not limited to : autistic spectrum disorders, sensory
integration disorders, developmental delay, cerebral palsy and other
neurological disorders. A screening may be necessary to determine group
readiness. Participation in the group can be in addition to individual
occupational therapy services. A doctor's prescription is required for "group
occupational therapy."
Stretching, alignment and relaxation group
Purpose: To improve range of motion, strength, alignment, flexibility,
sensory awareness, and ability to attend to task.
Group: Children are grouped according to age and functional
ability. Children should be able to follow directions. The current
group is limited to girls ages 10-14. Diagnoses may include, but are not
limited to, brachial plexus injury, sensory processing disorder and cerebral
palsy. Participants may supplement ongoing individual OT or attend group
OT only. A physician's prescription for "Group Occupational Therapy" is
required.
