Baby signs

Our certified speech-language pathologists teach parents how to communicate with their infants and toddlers.

Children's Memorial's certified speech-language pathologists are now offering a baby signs class. Baby sign language employs simple hand gestures that allow parents to communicate with their infant or toddler (age 9 to 18 months), before they are able to speak.

Research shows that children exposed to baby signs:

  • Speak sooner
  • Score higher on intelligence tests
  • Display greater self-awareness
  • Develop larger vocabularies
  • Engage in more sophisticated play
  • Show reduced frustration
