Powerful 3 Tesla scanner acquired
In January 2009, the Department of Medical Imaging started using the latest generation technology in 3T MRI scanners – the General Electric Discovery 750 3T MRI, recently installed at the hospital’s main campus. Children's Memorial is the first pediatric site to be up and running with this advanced technology. Currently only 16 of these systems have been installed in medical facilities worldwide.
The 3T MRI provides twice the field strength and improved resolution of the traditional 1.5T scanner. The increased image clarity is particularly beneficial for brain, spine and musculoskeletal scans. The new 3T MRI at Children’s Memorial has an especially attractive feature for children – an installed video system that allows patients to watch cartoons or movies. The scanner also has an iPod connector to a stereo system.
