Being the place where kids come first is a top priority for the Department of Medical Imaging (Radiology). We understand that each child needs the unique attention of healthcare professionals specially trained in pediatric care. We bring those skills and sensitivity to every family we serve, tailoring services to each patient to help minimize radiation dose used during each procedure.
Investing in the latest technology
We invest in the most technologically advanced equipment. For example, our picture archiving and communication system (PACS) uses cutting-edge technology enabling radiologists to quickly see all acquired images in a single place. This eliminates processing delays, enabling caregivers to communicate rapidly and, in turn, give you better service and your child better care.
A highly trained, experienced team
We perform about 109,000 procedures each year, including 9,800 MRIs of which 80 percent are done on medically complex and/or sedated children.
All of our radiologists are board certified with subspecialty training in pediatric radiology, interventional radiology and/or neuroradiology. All technologists and sonographers are credentialed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or are Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologists. Radiation professionals maintain active licenses with the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.
Our pediatric nurses are PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified; they are also skilled in venipuncture, bladder catheterization, and patient sedation.
Commitment to family-centered care
Experience has taught us that, for almost all procedures, a familiar face reduces a child’s anxiety and helps the procedure run more smoothly. That’s why we encourage parents and guardians to be present and participate during procedures.
From the moment patients and families step into any of our facilities, they’re surrounded by a vibrant, kid-friendly atmosphere. With activities in the waiting rooms, themed rooms and animated decor, our hospital space and outpatient centers are designed to make families feel comfortable.
Accredited by our peers
We're accredited by the American College of Radiology in the following modalities: CT, MRI, nuclear medicine and ultrasound. This means we've undergone intense scrutiny by our national peers to ensure our equipment, staff and standards offer you and your children the best possible imaging experience.

Training tomorrow's imaging specialists
As the pediatric training site for Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, we train residents and fellows. We are also the clinical site for many affiliated imaging programs at colleges including Wilbur Wright College, Triton College, Moraine Valley Community College and the College of DuPage.
