Pediatric radiology fellowship

Each year, approximately 185 housestaff physicians are trained here; almost 100 of whom are fellows in our pediatric subspecialties.

Children's Memorial is one of the major pediatric teaching hospitals in the United States. Teaching plays a vital role in the life of the institution; it permeates the hospital from top to bottom. Our commitment to optimal education means a commitment to optimal patient care. Consequently, our graduate medical education programs are consistently some of the most sought after and competitive in the country.

Each year, approximately 185 housestaff physicians are trained here; almost 100 of whom are fellows in our pediatric subspecialties. More than 200 medical students rotate through the hospital for clinical clerkships.

Our department has a fully-integrated PACS system with a speech recognition dictation system and state-of-the-art equipment.

The number of different medical schools represented by our housestaff exceeds half the total number of residents themselves. This diversity adds immeasurably to our group spirit and to our challenging and inquisitive environment.

Pediatric radiology fellowship

Our pediatric radiology fellowship program offers several one-year fellowship positions which are approved and accredited by the ACGME. Fellows rotate through all pediatric radiology subspecialty areas in our department, including:

  • General radiology/Fluoroscopy
  • Cross-sectional body imaging including US, CT and MRI
  • Nuclear medicine
  • Neuroradiology
  • Interventional radiology
  • Cardiac imaging

Each fellow will work with a mentor on a research project with the goal of producing a presentation at a peer-reviewed meeting or paper in a peer-reviewed publication.

An optional second year of specialized training with emphasis in pediatric neuroradiology, cardiac imaging or pediatric interventional radiology is also available to interested individuals after completion of the general pediatric radiology fellowship.

All imaging studies interpreted by the fellows are reviewed with one of the 20 subspecialty trained pediatric attending radiologists on staff, facilitating multiple, daily, one-on-one teaching sessions for the fellows. Additionally, fellows participate in:

  • A daily radiology resident teaching conference
  • Weekly fellows' conference
  • Weekly CT/MR conference
  • Weekly interdepartmental conferences with the departments of orthopaedics, general pediatric surgery and hematology/oncology
  • Monthly Journal Club, Morbidity and Mortality, and Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition conferences
