The Division of Pulmonary Medicine at Children's Memorial cares for more children with lung
and breathing-related conditions (an area of study known as pediatric
pulmonology) than any other health care facility in Chicago. In fact, the entire 9-West
inpatient unit is dedicated to the care of children with these conditions.
Clinical services include a cystic fibrosis
center, bronchoscopy services, a full-service pulmonary function laboratory,
a pulmonary physiology laboratory,
a program for children with complicated ventilator needs, and a sleep medicine center . Children's Memorial has one of the only two
accredited training programs in Chicago that teach physicians the most effective ways of
treating children with lung and breathing-related disorders.
If a child's condition is very complex and requires the
consultation of a variety of subspecialists, Children's Memorial is the hospital
of choice. Very few pediatric hospitals have Children's Memorial's equivalent
level of high-tech surgical services or the depth and breadth of
highly-qualified subspecialists immediately available.
In January 2007, the pulmonary care at Children's Memorial was named among the top ten specialties
of this kind in the nation by Child Magazine. Read the article in Child Magazine.
