Pulmonary physiology laboratory
The pulmonary physiology
laboratory at Children’s Memorial Hospital offers comprehensive,
state-of-the-art testing designed to assist in managing the most challenging
diagnostic cases. The laboratory offers both static and dynamic lung function
testing (i.e spirometry, bronchodilator challenges, lung volume capacities,
arterial blood gas analysis, respiratory muscle strength, end tidal carbon
dioxide studies, and pulse oximetry); aerobic and anaerobic exercise tolerance
challenges (i.e bike ergometer testing, treadmill studies, field tests, slide
board rehabilitation, and walk tests); exercise airway assessment (i.e exercise
laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy); provocation studies (i.e exercise stress
testing, exercise induced asthma studies, cold air challenge, and methacholine
provocation), along with a full bronchoscopy service.
Our services go beyond
routine lung assessment. Consultative services are also available; they include
nutrition analysis, body composition analysis, exercise prescription, pulmonary
rehabilitation, and asthma education. All testing is performed under the medical
supervision of our board-certified pulmonologists. Feel free to contact one of
our dedicated pediatric respiratory therapy, exercise physiology or pulmonary
diagnostic specialists to assist you in determining which of our multiple
services is best suited to address your child’s special needs.
The laboratory can be reached at either 773.880.8248 or 773.880.3745.
