The Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children's Memorial Hospital has one of the largest surgical case loads in North America, performing more than 1,000 cases each year. For example, from January 1981 through October 1996, more than 1,600 surgeries on tumors of the central nervous system were performed (including re-operations).

The fame of the division and its leadership have attracted numerous international scholars to Children's Memorial who have since gone on to advance pediatric neurosurgery in their respective countries. More than ten percent of the certified pediatric neurosurgeons in the United States have been trained at Children's Memorial. Pediatric neurosurgeons from Japan, China, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Africa, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, and Venezuela have also been trained at Children's Memorial Hospital.
