ISPNO 2008
The Falk Brain Tumor Center at Children's Memorial Hospital hosted the 13th International Symposium on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology 2008 (ISPNO 2008) held on June 30-July 2, 2008. Dr. Stewart Goldman and Dr. Tadanori Tomita were co-chairs of this international meeting.
A total of 881 attendees from over 40 countries and 37 states participated in ISPNO 2008. The meeting included oncologists, neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, neurologists, nurses, basic researchers, neuro-pathologists, neuro-radiologists, endocrinologists, psychologists, social workers, research associates and other health care providers involved in the care of children with central nervous system tumors.
The scientific program consisted of 487 accepted scientific abstracts, 248 oral presentations and 239 poster presentations.
- A Pre-Symposium Education Day with concurrent sessions focused on Neuro-Oncology, Neurosurgery and Epidemiology was held on June 29, 2008.
- New to ISPNO for 2008 was the first ever ISPNO Family Education Day, organized by families – for families of patients with brain tumors.
- Also, our colleagues from Société International d’Oncologie Pédiatrique (SIOP) held their Bi-Annual Meeting in conjunction with ISPNO 2008 and the Brain Tumor Epidemiology Consortium (BTEC) presented an Epidemiology Course.
- Finally, all accepted abstracts were published in the journal Neuro-Oncology in time for the meeting.
