Neonatology (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

Dr. Robin Steinhorn's innovative treatment using nitric oxide saved Nicholas' life as a premature, critically-ill infant. Read more.

Ranked 18th in the nation, the Division of Neonatology at Children's Memorial Hospital is a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of critically ill newborn infants.

The hospital's 42-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is designated by the state of Illinois as a Level III nursery, which means we can provide infants with the type of highly specialized care unavailable at many other area hospitals.

In 2008, we cared for more than twice the children with life-threatening conditions than any other regional hospital. And, nearly half of all patients brought to our NICU came from other regional nurseries that carry the same Level III designation.

(This Virtual Tour takes you into the one of the rooms within the unit.)
