Services
Board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and experienced nurses
in the Division of Emergency Medicine are poised to handle even
the most complicated, life-threatening cases 24 hours a day. The staff provides the expertise
of ten board-certified pediatric emergency medicine specialists and six fellows
(board-certified pediatricians pursuing advanced training in pediatric emergency
medicine).
And reaching beyond the hospital's walls, members of the staff are teaching
pre-hospital providers — emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters
and police officers — how to recognize and respond to child
abuse and neglect. Information about the Child Maltreatment Awareness
CD-ROM, an educational training resource designed to reduce injury and mortality
from child abuse and neglect, is available here
.
Furthermore, several emergency room physicians have a
special interest in injury prevention and are partnering with other groups
through the Injury
Free Coalition for Kids of Chicago to address this important issue.
