Our anesthesiologists administer about 15,000 anesthetics yearly for all types of surgery at the main Chicago campus and Children's Memorial Outpatient Centers in Glenview and Westchester.
In addition to its services in surgery, physicians also provide anesthesia services in the Department of Medical Imaging and in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. The staff also administers an acute and chronic pain treatment service, oversees the sedation of children for diagnostic procedures in many areas of the hospital and consults in the intensive care units.
We are one of the national leaders in research into drugs, equipment and techniques to increase the safety of administering anesthesia to children.
A program for anesthesiology residents, fellows and allied health personnel is also part of the department's mission, as is serving on national and international committees, contributing to and editing anesthesiology textbooks, and doing research.
